Aussies love their meat, so news that Australia is at the forefront of veganism may come as a bit of a surprise. According to Google Trends, in Australia the word ‘vegan’ is the most searched worldwide.
So why are people so interested in these types of diets?
The growing trend in veganism can be associated with a number of reasons, such as an increased awareness of health, the environment and compassion for animals. Restaurants, cafes and supermarkets are also making plant-based food options more readily available.
University student, Jim Clarke has been following a vegan diet for the past 11 months. As Jim prepares a vegan curry, he talks about his changing diet, the stigmas associated with veganism and his views on the current and future practices of sustainability.
